YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
It’s sensible to ensure you fully understand the Motability Scheme and its benefits before joining, so we’ve provided answers to the most frequent questions below.
However, should you require any further details, don’t hesitate to contact our Motability specialist.
Q. How can I have adaptions made to my vehicle?
A. We’ve got ties to many Motability-approved adaption partners. They will provide advice and guidance to help you manage the process of organising the changes.
Q. Am I entitled to financial help as a Motability customer?
A. Motability may offer financial assistance towards your car, adaptions, and more, but this needs to be arranged before applying.
Q. What Mobility Allowance rate am I entitled to?
A. You should have received an award notice from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) containing details of your allowance entitlement. If you’ve not yet received information, you should contact the DWP directly.
Q. I’m not entitled to the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance, what should I do?
A. Don’t worry; we can still help. Contact us and we will advise on how you can obtain your ideal car.
Q. Are people over the age of 65 eligible for the Motability Scheme?
A. Yes, if you’re currently receiving the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement. If you’re not receiving these allowances, you aren’t eligible beyond the age of 65.
Q. Can I have a Motability car at the same time as a powered wheelchair or scooter?
A. Unfortunately not, as your disability allowance is used to cover the cost of the car and this generally consumes the whole allowance.
Q. Who is insured to drive my Motability car?
A. You can nominate two drivers to use your Motability vehicle. If you are a disabled driver, you count as one and can choose anyone else you trust. You can change who is authorised during the lease, and a third person can be added at an additional cost. Please note that restrictions apply for drivers under 25.
Q. Does the disabled motorist receiving Mobility Allowance always need to be in the vehicle?
A. No. Although the scheme is provided primarily for you, other nominated users can use the vehicle on their own.
Q. How long will it take for my vehicle to be delivered?
A. That depends on the model type and if adaptions are required. We’ll inform you of this as soon as we know.
